Jan 17, 2007__Digi-Key Corp. today announced a global distribution pact that will allow the company to participate in the $3 billion RFID market, distributing products from RFID specialist FEIG Electronic GmbH.
The deal allows Digi-Key (Thief River Falls, Minn.) to fulfill both design and production quantities of FEIG's OBID brand radio-frequency identification antennas, handheld readers and accessories to customers in more than 140 countries. The products will be featured in both its print and online catalogs, Digi-Key said.
Digi-Key, which ranks among the world's five largest catalog distributors of electronic parts, will provide technical staff, product specialists and application engineers to support FEIG's product lines.
FEIG (Weilburg, Germany) has specialized in design and manufacture of contactless identification products, door controllers and traffic sensors for more than 35 years. With approximately $30 million in annual revenue, the small company is considered a leading supplier of RFID devices worldwide.
The RFID market, including systems and services, is projected to reach $26 billion by 2016, according to IDTechEx Research, a U.K.-based RFID consultancy.
